Job Description

60 Days contract. The Bosun / Crane Operator is responsible for the supervision of deck ratings and the safe, efficient execution of deck and lifting operations under the direction of the Chief Officer. This role combines leadership, hands-on maintenance, and crane operation duties, ensuring all tasks are performed in accordance with the company’s safety and operational procedures. Key Responsibilities 1. Deck Supervision & Maintenance Lead and manage deck crew in carrying out the Deck Planned Maintenance Schedule (PMS) as instructed by the Chief Officer. Ensure all work is conducted safely and efficiently, adhering to company policies and international maritime standards. Assist in shipboard operations, mooring, anchoring, and cargo work as directed by the Chief Officer. Monitor paint, deck stores, and equipment inventory; report shortages or requirements promptly. Conduct daily sounding of tanks and bilges, or as otherwise instructed. Report any damages, irregularities, or deficiencies on deck to the Chief Officer. Participate in safety and security drills and uphold compliance with safety procedures at all times. 2. Crane Operation & Maintenance Operate deck cranes safely during cargo, material, and passenger transfer operations under instructions from the designated Banksman (Chief Officer, Bosun, or Leaderman). Ensure only certified, marked, and suitable lifting appliances and slings are used during lifting operations. Conduct regular maintenance of the deck crane as per PMS, including checking lubricant and hydraulic oil levels, greasing wire ropes, and general upkeep. Perform routine deck maintenance such as chipping and painting. Inspect lifting gear regularly (shackles, blocks, rollers, wire slings, belt slings, and cargo nets) to ensure all are in safe operational condition. When the vessel is idle, warm up the deck crane at least twice weekly, ensure batteries are charged, and verify crane readiness at all times. Report any crane or lifting equipment defects immediately to the Chief Officer or Master for corrective action.
