Job Description
Danau Girang Field Centre invites applications from suitable qualified Malaysians for the position of Lead Wildlife Crime Analyst, to be based in Kota Kinabalu.
This position will be responsible for the generation and dissemination of key intelligence to strategically and operationally direct the enforcement work of the Sabah Wildlife Department, including training and supervision of the analyst team of the Intelligence Unit.
Primary Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the SWD’s Head of Enforcement and the Project Coordinator, the Lead Wildlife Crime Analyst will:
• Fully manage the overall data analyses process, including quality assurance and preparation and presentation of reports;
• Ensure the effective implementation of the Intelligence Cycle, providing reviews and improvements if and when needed;
• Establish and review Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and other ad hoc documents for the operations of the Intelligence Unit;
• Prepare and/or present scheduled and ad hoc reports for the management;
• Assist investigators by reviewing intelligence and providing recommendations;
• Conduct training and evaluation for the analyst unit; attend meetings and communicate with existing regional crime analysts.
Qualifications/Experience
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of criminal (strategic and/or operational) intelligence, including the application of analytical techniques;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical principles of crime intelligence analysis and of analytical processes, including knowledge of pertinent legislation;
• Extensive proven experience within an analytical discipline (both quantitative and qualitative analysis), preferably gained within a law enforcement environment;
• Experience of assisting investigators, reviewing intelligence, and making recommendations to further the progress of investigations;
• Advanced computer skills, particularly using advanced MS Excel and i2 products (iBase and Analyst’s Notebook);
• Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia; excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to produce and present concise reports;
• Strong, proven leadership qualities, with ability to work independently and within a team.
Position Background
This position is created under SHIELD (Sabah’s Harmonized Intelligence Enforcement and Legal Defence against Wildlife Crimes), a two-year collaborative project led by Sabah Wildlife Department, aimed at protecting Malaysia’s unique wildlife through the enhancement of law enforcement, cross-agency cooperation, and specialist training in Sabah.
