Job Description

Danau Girang Field Centre invites applications from suitably Malaysians for the position of Laboratory Quality Officer, to be based in the Wildlife Health, Genetic and Forensic Laboratory, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This position will be responsible for maintaining the MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation of the Sabah Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Health, Genetic and Forensic Laboratory whilst performing molecular analyses. Primary Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Forensic Unit Technical Manager and the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Quality Officer will: • Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information for the maintenance of the ISO17025 accreditation; • Continually improve the WHGFL’s quality management system by identifying and resolving problems, completing audits, and implementing and enforcing changes; • Ensure the storage of samples and reagents in accordance with safety and other requirements; maintain equipment records and daily work logs; perform various molecular analyses on a variety of samples; • Conduct laboratory operation activities on a roster basis; • Support and assist in administrative duties. Qualification and Experience • A Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related fields; with 2-3 year work experience; • Confident knowledge of molecular biology techniques, particularly DNA extraction, amplification and visualization; • Preferably with training or knowledge in ISO accreditation and biosafety; • Strong reporting skills (oral and written) in English and BM; • Good interpersonal skills and a strong sense of discipline, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Position Background This position is created under SHIELD (Sabah’s Harmonized Intelligence Enforcement and Legal Defence against Wildlife Crimes), a two-year collaborative project led by Sabah Wildlife Department, aimed at protecting Malaysia’s unique wildlife through the enhancement of law enforcement, cross-agency cooperation, and specialist training in Sabah.
